Sausage Hombre hits the streets today.

Chef Guillermo Tellez’s sausage cart made its debut today, hitting the streets at 5th and Chestnut about an hour and a half ago. He’s grilling up 5 varieties of his housemade sausage and selling them for $6 apiece (bottle of water included). So for those of you willing to brave the clouds and the drizzle, get over there now. He’s only going to be working his corner until the sausages run out.

Taco Angeleno Opening in West Philadelphia

Posted by Sam Bloch on May 24th, 2013

Taco Angeleno, a new food truck based in West Philadelphia, is opening this summer. The truck debuted the Go West Craft Fest, and also had a preview picnic on on May 17 and was at Clark Park on the 18th. The truck is run by Vanessa Jerolmack, who just completed a 9-month run as a cook at Loco Pez, where she honed her knowledge of the restaurant business. The truck will serve chicken, beef, pork, eitan, soy miso, and soy-free tacos that will also be available in burrito form.

There is also a rotating daily platter special such as enchiladas, taquitos, and tamales served with rice and beans. The truck will be based at 5019 Baltimore Avenue, which will have picnic tables where you can enjoy your tacos. If all goes well, Jerolmack plans on opening a shack on the Baltimore Ave. site that can house a full kitchen and some counter seating.

Look for the taco cart on Baltimore Avenue or at festivals throughout the summer. And you can check out a much longer profile on Jerolmack and her new truck over at West Philly Local.

Beauty Shop Cafe (and Former Foobooz World Headquarters) Sold to Farmers’ Cabinet

Posted by Arthur Etchells on May 24th, 2013

beauty-shop-cafe

Jon Adler has sold his Graduate Hospital coffee shop, Beauty Shop Cafe to the team from Farmers’ Cabinet. According to Adler, the Farmers’ Cabinet team plans some cosmetic changes but will continue to run the property as a café.

Beauty Shop Cafe held down the northwest corner of 20th and Fitzwater for six years, overseeing the sweeping changes that have come to the Graduate Hospital neighborhood. The coffee shop was a must stop-in spot for politicos, publicans, Phillies fans, construction workers, coffee geeks and even the odd quizzo host. When I ran Foobooz on my own, it was also my morning office and the source of more tips and stories than it ever had any right to be.

I wish Adler and the entire Beauty Shop team all the best.

Roy Choi Is Cooking In Camden?

Posted by Jason Sheehan on May 23rd, 2013

RoyChoi

True, the weird, headless selfie ain’t much to look at. But it’s the tweet it’s attached to that made us sit up and take notice:

“Cooking in Camden then back to Philly love”

For those of you who don’t know, Roy Choi is the man behind L.A.’s slavishly adored Kogi Taco–a Korean taco food truck that people just go absolutely batshit over. (It was good enough that it snagged Choi a 2010 Best New Chef nod from Food & Wine magazine.) We don’t have any idea why (or where) he’s cooking in Camden, or what he’s doing in Philly (other than buying cheese), but until we hear otherwise, we’re just going to assume that he’s looking at bringing a new Kogi truck to town which will do nothing but follow Art and I all over the city every day.
