Sansom Street Oyster House Closes
Posted by Foobooz on June 6th, 2008

A Foobooz reader dropped this photo of the front of Sansom Street Oyster House into our inbox. Michael Klein has more details. Owner Cary Neff, who also owns Coquette at 5th and Bainbridge has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and former Sansom Street Oyster house owner and still building owner David Mink plans to reopen the longtime restaurant.
Coquette is still open but you have to wonder if that restaurant black hole hasn’t claimed another victim, this one remotely.

This is terrible news. My wife and I will no longer have a reason to retire in Center CIty. We feel wonderfully fortunate to have gone just last week on Sunday night when the gentleman behind the bar (was he the owner?) was hustling like it was the playoffs. The food was still wonderful, the oysters fresh, the bronzino done just right, the soft shell crabs perfect… The only glitch was the somewhat old bottle of Belgian beer and the absence of the trademark oyster crackers. We had to have our horseradish on bread.
