Chef Shakeup At SPTR

Posted by Foobooz on September 4th, 2008

This just in from the South Philadelphia Taproom.

The SPTR is getting a new Chef who will start mid Oct.

Until then we are going to run a Blast From The Past Menu
ie: Mussels, monster grilled cheese, calamari etc. And Suprise you can get just fries if u want. We apologize to our customers for the last 6 months that have been disappointed with us.
Hopefully u can all walk in again and stumble out
CHEERS!!!!!!!!

Does this mean our crusade to return Newbold Spuds to their rightful spot on the SPTR menu may finally be a success?

Hang on, is the Blue Pig still on the menu for the time being? And please tell me this doesn’t have something to do with the lion meat scandel. >:(

    3. Mike Says:

Awesome news. I always enjoyed the old menu more and never was into any of the recent changes. I guess the rest of the customers felt the same way!

    4. peter Says:

you people are ridiculous. go eat your plates of fries

    5. cheesesteak.the.impaler Says:

Damnit, I want boar burger, boar bacon, and blue cheese! I also don’t want to walk 8 blocks in a typhoon to find its no longer on the menu. Someone help a deadly sandwich out and tell me what’s what!

    6. Marianne Says:

You can still get your Blue Pig at Bridgewater’s in 30th Street Station.

    7. Blayer Says:

This is bull s***! Can you smell it? Michael Zulli is a amazing chef. I loved many things on his menu. Anyone who sat down and ate loved the food. Zach’s Trifle was great! The blue pig, fish and chips, and Sptr burger were all awesome. Food tickets went up under his so called reign and plenty of critics praised his work. So why did he leave? Maybe the owner wanted to pay the kitchen staff less money even though they were doing a great job! We all know the wait staff sucks but that’s not Zulli’s fault.

    8. Foodie Says:

We all love disgruntled employees. Blayer, you have posted the same comment one EVERY food site or blog, with different names (not so smart). Get over yourself and find a new job!!! Welcome back to the old menu and I can not wait until the newer, better chef starts in October.

    9. Blayer Says:

I have a great job as a Network Administrator for a non profit. I’m not a former employee just a former customer.

    10. A.B. Says:

Ding Dong. The witch is dead!

    11. Trader Scott Says:

Zulli was the biggest fraud of all time. Why do you think he was a Bridgewaters for all those years. The Taproom gave him a chance. The new menu is light years ahead of Zulli’s joke of wanna be menu. In addition, all of the wanna be punk rock douche bag crack head’s Zulli had working for him are also gone. GOOD RIDDENCE !! Thank god the owner had enough sense to give the Taproom back to the people !

    12. glasses Says:

I’m a little late with this, but I think the menu at SPTR sucked while Zulli was there. I used to be very much a regular. I’ve since moved closer to the bar, but have only been twice in the last 6 months. I look forward to trying it out again.

    13. Melissa Says:

I’m really late to this and can’t believe I am just learning about it all of these months later when I wanted to venture back to SPTR, but when I found out that chef Michael Zulli wasn’t there I left. Where did he go? Is he still in South Philly? I can’t find any links to where he is now, but I’d love to check out his food again.

    14. simba Says:

He went to NYC and he’s not working. GO figure

    15. Poopy Monster Says:

Zulli is working! I heard he got a job at a rest stop on the NJ Tpk. He is Chief Fry boy, and all of the crack head douche bags he had working for him all O D’d. Isn’t it funny how much press the new Chef at the SPTR is getting? Funny how things like that work.

    16. Simba Says:

Nice one poopy monster, nice one
