A Few Looks At Prohibition Taproom

Posted by Foobooz on November 5th, 2008

In today’s Metro, The Bite takes a look at some November openings including Prohibition Taproom.

The red neon “BAR” sign invites neighborhood folk and passers-by inside to check out the beer and food. The spot formerly held Maker’s Local and Canavan’s Pub but there’s reason to be optimistic the third time is the charm, as Café Lift owners Michael Pasquarello and Jeniphur Whitleigh are at the helm this time. The beers range from Lionshead to Allagash and pretty much everywhere in between. Gastropub fare dots the chalkboard menu, with the slow roast pork sandwich likely to become the signature dish.

Meal Ticket also has a first look and today Living on the Vedge finds love in the ProTap’s beer-battered green beans.

PTR’s opening is definately great for the area. We’ve been excited about it for months now. 2 places so close make for a good destination area. The great thing about Philly is that similar places can be very close and actually help each other. I hope that PTR’s opening helps sway some skeptics–the neighborhood is very safe.
Like us, PTR’s owners also live in the community. Its not just a business venture, its an investment in the growth and development of the community for us both.
Root is also in the area and also very worthy of checking out.

@ heather: do you think you could talk others into some first friday deals/incentives? with vox pop, copy gallery, mio culture, 1026, and that new juan and janita’s place all in walking distance there’s almost a neighborhood art scene. could the pro tap, the institute, root, sazon, siam, maybe even that burrito place on 10th and hamilton, and whoever else team up for some kind of art/food/drinks fun?
