Earth, Bread + Brews

Earth Bread + Brewery Pizza

Craig LaBan knows there isn’t a much better combination than pizza and beer and he makes his way out to Earth Bread + Brewery to sample Tom Baker’s  experimental brews and thin crisp pizzas.

There are definitely some choices worth visiting for, including the “Traditional” take on a Margherita, its zesty sauce topped with mozzarella and fresh arugula tufted in the middle. The Mexican adds a jalapeño- and smoked-paprika tingle to the tomato sauce, which also gets the pop of roasted black beans and corn. But the most memorable bread here is the “Seed,” a sauceless cheese round scattered with enough crunchies – sesame, pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, and garlic (whoa, lots of garlic!) – to make a Weaver’s Way bulk-bin groupie go weak in the knees.

“What could be more satisfying than great pizza and beer? A destination for pizza and beer this good in my own neighborhood.” Craig LaBan

So the top food critic in the city tells you that he needs more choices in his hood. He basically just gave a free consultation to would be restauranteurs. The food chick from Philadelphia Magazine, one member of the great Foobooz, another prominent weekly paper food writer among others I’m not thinking of, all live in this hood. Yet we still can’t get the love over here in South West Center City. WTF? There is a demand, where is the supply of new places? All these openings and nothing in our hood? Ahh, Forget about it. Go BIRDS!!

Tonyjlive: Neutron Bomb. Quit being an Omega Man with the rest of the SWCC/G-Ho/whatever denizens and move to a neighborhood where people actually live, not lurk.

Off topic, I know, but I compulsively must mention the neutron bomb blast radius whenever that area’s mentioned. I’m committed.
