Eyeball Bender From The Past

Posted by Foobooz on April 3rd, 2009

Like it was in 1894, this corner “lager beer and liquor establishment” is still a bar today, albeit one that has had a few owners in just the past couple of years. It’s admittedly a tough one. We’ll drop some hits via Twitter and the comments throughout the afternoon.

Check out the swinging saloon doors too. And you thought they were just in the movies!

Knock has had a few owners, but the shape of the building is all wrong (unless it’s a mirror image).

      Maybe Finn McCool’s?

Eyeball Bender hint: Today, you’d consider the location a bit off the beaten track.

isnt it pro tap? the handwriting at the bottom right looks like it says “SE Corner 13th & Buttonwood”

I agree that it says 13th and buttonwood. If you check phillyhistory.org it even shows this picture there… But looking at google street view. I can’t believe it’s the same building. They look very different

yea it doesnt look anything like the building as it is now. the bricks have been covered and the windows have been altered. 115 years and countless bars have come and gone.

Everyone who guessed Prohibition Taproom, you are correct. It certainly looks different today.
