Coo’s Opens On Broad

Posted by Foobooz on September 3rd, 2009

Coo’s Sports Bar on the 800 block of North Broad Street is opening tomorrow. Thrillist has the details on the 150-seat, 32 plasma strong sports bar including what’s pouring on some of the 21 taps including Chimay White. Looks like we owe someone an apology.

Pretty effing tacky telling employees to bring id and social security cards on the main page of their web site. Then again they took the prices down from the site. Maybe they got a coo that their prices were nuts.

I’m glad someone is investing in the neighborhood, douchebag haters notwithstanding

For a brand new sportsbar, this place has gone balls to the wall and shot for an interesting and rare niche: a Sports “Lounge.” Catering to a crowd that doesn’t mind shelling out 10+ for a sandwich (as long as its a pretty damn good sandwich!) Coo’s has definitely struck their mark. With delectable Coconut and Crab soups, Habenero Honey Hot Wings, and some delectable sandwiches named after Philly Mainstays, the Menu does not disappoint.

Suprisingly, the alcohol is priced far cheaper than one would expect with food prices in the moderate to moderate-high range. Cheap booze, great food, and and even more impressive atmosphere (Over 30 flatscreens and even a shuffleboar table?!?) make Coo’s a great spot to bring the boys, the girls or even a date to catch the game or just catch a brew.

Don’t be suprised if you end up sharing one of the 20 well-chosen drafts with Owner Tom Fario, as he is constantly mixing it up with the crowd that, in my opinion, has grown exponentially since I’ve been there (twice) in the past week–even if exponentially is just from 2 to 32…

Heather here. A few weeks ago your chef came in to my bar and had wings and soup. And then proceded to comment that they sucked, and he could make them better. People really like our soups and wings. I put a hell of a lot of work in to everything. We are in the same boat. Good concepts in locations that are very tough sells. I was going to let it go but seeing your post highlighting the soup and wings and knowing what was done and said, well some might think its tacky for me to call you out like this but I speak my mind. And I’m not anonymous. Or blatently trying to self promote.
Comments about my place not being shit were also made. It made it back to me in great measure.
The other night I walked from Spring Garden to your place. I was harrassed by 2 trans-sexual prostitutes who had interesting comments about my rear end, asked for money by a creepy guy who followed me for half a block, and then as I walked by the Chinese take-out place 2 doors down from you, 2 guys coming out thought trying to scare me would be fun. I laughed and quoted a Ludacris song–the one about “you don’t know me like that”
Now I can walk to any of the places in Fairmount and not encounter any of this. I can walk to center city and Northern Liberties and again, not encounter any of this.
Cheap liquor in your location is a mistake. There is a shelter a stone’s throw from where you are. You’ll understand what I mean when cell phones and wallets go missing. Or when someone who was drinking just a bit too much gets jacked walking home from your place. Criminals are not stupid. They go where the money is and wait for the chance to take it. I do crime prevention and safety awareness outreach. I’m speaking from what I know. And what I’m asked to help with.
Again I applaud your taking the chance on the area. Its a beautiful spot (what I can see from pics)
We are not nor will we be competition. You obviously feel differently. Stay the course and tough it out and I think in time you’ll have a spot that is successful. But don’t ever send in spys or talk crap about my place again. We live in glass houses and cannot afford to throw stones.

Heather, I deeply appologize for any insulting words that my kitchen staff may have used. I can assure you that our executive chef was not the one who made those comments and would be interested in finding out which one of our line cooks said that about your menu items. I promise you that they were NOT instructed to spy on your establishment as we feel that the other buisnesses in and surrounding our neighborhood can only help us grow. I would like to appologize to you in person for this misunderstanding. please contact me at coossportsbar@hotmail.com so that we may further discuss what happened.

      sincerely,

      Michael
