Changes Coming to Xochitl

Posted by Foobooz on February 4th, 2010

Out with the old, in with the new at 2nd Street’s Xochitl. Out is chef Dionicio Jimenez who, Michael Klein reports will be heading up Stephen Starr’s new Mexican operation at 2013 Chestnut Street. Also making its way out will be the wall separating the bar and dining areas.

In will be chef Lucio Palazzo who has worked as sous chef at Zahav and Percy Street Barbecue. Also in will be a casual and lower priced menu and the new logo pictured above.

Still in is bar manager Sergio Ruiz and Xochitl’s award winning margaritas and drinks.

      Hey Look! It’s Enrico Palazzo!

This is actually pretty sad news. I have had nothing but good experiences at Xochitl. I am glad however that the bar manager will be staying because the drinks are awesome.

This is really bad news. Xochitl was the best modern Mexican in the city. I am not a Starr hater at all, but Jimenez will not be doing that kind of great cooking at his new restaurant.
We have so much great Mexican in Philly, but I feel like we are taking a step backwards here to the much more casual food.

i think the new menu looks really good. also, i think removing the wall is a good idea. excited for its reopening.
