World Wide Burgers

Since Steve Poses has opened his Frog Burger stand in front of the Franklin Institute he’s gotten his fair of electronic ink, both positive and negative. Here are some of the highlights:

Grilled to a perfect center-pink medium — was juicy and flavorful, the kind of burger that soaks the bun (in this case, the grilled cheese) in meaty, drippy goodness. The burgers are so juicy that the Frog Burger offers bibs to customers.”

Perhaps the most exciting part about this stand is that they sell slices of their famous carrot cake, as well as the appropriately-named Killer Cake, which is one of the original, and best, chocolate-overload desserts.  They’ll also mix either of those cakes into a milkshake

Seemingly, we now live in an era of throwing ideas at the wall and using the power of prayer–or the more secular, buzz–to make them stick.

The LOVE Burger has already stolen my heart, and I expect to eat more than a few this summer.  (With a buddy, though — it is 3 sandwiches in one, people.)

Ate there with my kids before a visit to the Franklin Institute. The grilled cheese burger mashup doesn’t interest me; I went with a traditional style with cheese, fried onion and bacon. It was cooked as I had ordered it–medium rare–which I find not every restaurant gets right.

I also like that you can order a pitcher of iced tea, lemonade or 1/2 & 1/2 mix of both, Arnold Palmer-style.

We all shared a black & white shake, which was delicious, too.

Eating at a museum or zoo tends to be expensive no matter what, so the $30 we dropped was at least on something better than commissary food.

The grilled cheese as buns thing is not some crazy idea Poses came up with; it has been done for a few years, at least, around the country. Friendly’s now offers a burger with grilled cheese as buns, as well.

It’s still a dumb idea but it’s not like Poses is just “throwing ideas at the wall,” people like this sort of thing.

They should do a special demonstration inside the Franklin’s giant heart as to what the “burger craze” is probably doing to many Philadelphians’ arteries….

The grilled-cheese-as-bun concept is lame. Too much bread. Just make a burger with extra cheese and grill the damn bun for me, that I would like.
