Unusual Menu Footnotes

Posted by Foobooz on July 26th, 2010

When we were in California a couple weeks back we noticed more than one menu that politely stated “changes & modifications politely declined.”

Closer to home we see there can be a downside to having your fried chicken praised by Bon Appetit, Resurrection Ale House has had to add this unusual disclaimer to its menu:

The Cockamamie Rule About the Chicken:

Yes, it is true, our Twice Fried Chicken might be some of the most written about chicken in the history of all chickendom, however, we are only able to prepare so many orders per day. In an effort to spread the chicken love around, we limit each table to 3 orders of fried chicken. Thank you for understanding. You will be rewarded in chicken heaven.

So we ask you dear readers, do you have any menu footnotes that stand out as peculiar, funny or even offensive?

In the same fried chicken vein, SPTR’s menu includes a footnote that recommends patience and ordering appetizers.

Resurrection’s fried chicken is very good, but SPTR’s is much better.

i say meh to the resurrection notice…it is very normal for eateries to sell out of popular dishes, and the average guest is aware of that, but i don’t think parties should be limited in how many of one dish they should order. it seems like this policy is almost forcing guests to choose other dishes from the menu and that is almost a shady business practice. and aside from that, if you know a dish is popular, hire the extra help and prepare more of it. give the people what they want!

i have not seen sptr’s notice about patience, but if they are making it from scratch for each order, then that is definitely a needed note. you can’t rush good chicken!!

I almost think the Resurrection notice is just good marketing. When people think something is scarce, they want it more. I bet they sell more because they have a limit than they would if they didn’t have a limit.

Scarcity creates demand, and fried chicken is not that easy to make in giant quantities.

The Redhead in NYC makes cluckers that kill 99% of the offerings down here.

I demand more depth and breadth of fried chicken choices in 2011!

A place to sea and to be seen. Bottom of Bobby Chez menu.
