SEPTA Bus Hits Monk’s

Posted by Foobooz on August 10th, 2010

Just before last call an empty SEPTA bus managed to slam into the front door of Monk’s Cafe. Luckily no one was seriously injured but the front entrance to Monk’s was heavily damaged.

Here’s the scene this morning via Erik Villari (above) and last night via Johnny Goodtimes (below).

Michael Klein has just reported that owner Tom Peters says the famous Belgian bar could reopen within a week. Certainly good news there.

Meal Ticket was on the scene earlier today with some more photos of the damage.

Meal Ticket was in contact with Tom Peters and he says the best case scenario for reopening is Friday, August 13th, worst case, two weeks.

How the hell is that even possible??? Just…wow.

Thank God no one was injured! Hopefully the driver is okay… that looks like major impact.

    3. Dan Says:

This article is misleading. While none of Monk’s employees or patrons were injured, the Septa bus driver and two DRPA officers were taken to Jefferson and treated for minor injuries. Apparently, the DRPA SUV was en route to an emergency and struck the Septa bus, sending the bus into one of the best bars in North America.

I hope Tom can get this fixed ASAP. I’m craving mussels!

And the third (bottom) photo would seem to indicate that a Police vehicle was also damaged. Sure seems like the driver wanted to make Last Call!

I’ll tell you, Monk’s the worst luck. Last time when the fire escape collapsed they opened up again very quickly but a few days after that crash is crazy. I hope they are zoned for outdoor seating

      maybe it’s time to move

Umm…monk’s isn’t even close to a turn….someone must have been drinking.

      Lordy! Lordy!

Was any crappy white wine found near the scene?

I think it was the owner’s of Eulogy. Just a theory…
