What’s on the Menu at the Village Belle?

The Queen Village location (757 South Front St.) of very grand, very old-school, very closed Italian restaurant Frederick’s has a new tenant: The Village Belle, a Northern Mediterranean restaurant from chef-brothers Joey and Louis Campanaro. The brothers grew up in Philly — South Philly, to be precise — but Joey Campanaro has made his name as proprietor of Little Owl in New York; Louis Campanaro will be executive chef of Village Belle, which opens this Wednesday, October 27. The 2,000-square-foot space features, according to the PR blather, a “fully-restored, 100-year-old, 26-foot-long solid mahogany bar crafted by a Swedish ship builder” and multiple dining areas with capacity for up to 90 guests. Wine list will focus on Italian and Spanish selections and there will be specialty cocktails like a “ginger pear capiroska” (pear, ginger and vodka).

For those of you who follow the New York dining scene, you may recognize Little Owl’s gravy meatball sliders, which made a major splash a few years ago in Manhattan, on the bar menu. South Philly meatballs return to South Philly, via the Big Apple. Fascinating!

Hours are Monday through Saturday, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
