      And I’m sure Bobby butchered the name of every Central and South American chili pepper he used. The guy is an “icon” in Southwest American cuisine, yet he still doesn’t grasp the tilde or silent “H” in the Spanish language. Baffles me why no one on the food network has at least forced him to use the correct pronunciation.

      For the record, I am aware that chilies, and chili’s are two different beasts indeed. I hope my sarcasm wasn’t lost.

      Hey Goodtimes, Flay is literally a world class chef, the tasting is blind and he wins more often than he loses against chefs from provincial towns like Philly where people think he has no chance.

      Just sayin’.

      there’s nothing actually blind about these tastings. anyone who they could bring in to be the judges from the area who are into food will have tasted paesano’s before.

      If Bobby Flay comes back to the area for another throwdown, it should be against Jack Mcdavid (Jack’s Firehouse), who co-hosted Grillin’ and Chillin’ with him way back when. That would at least have some comedic value. Those two really didn’t seem to like each other on camera.

      His show pits him with a week of prep and fancied up ingredients, against allegedly unsuspecting cooks preparing standard menu items in bulk for a supposed feature on a fake show. Yet going by wikipedia, he only wins about a third of the time.

      had a conversation with Bobby Flay about eh, 5 years ago I guess. I was still skinny. And there were only 4 kids. It went like this: “You know who you remind me of?” “No. But I have an idea who” “Yea. You look like Bobby Flay” “I get that all the time and I hate it.” “Well you should because I’ve heard hear and there that he’s a real a-hole. I can’t stand him either way.” (flabbergasted) “He is so NOT an A-HOLE! He’s smart and successful and has this crazy-hot wife…………” “Cut the crap Bobby. You fell in to that.” “How did you know it was me and not someobody who looks like Bobby Flay?” “Your hat is a great disguise. Really. Not at all. And you are just a bit full of yourself” “I hate it when people call me a jerk or an a-hole or arrogant. I don’t think I am”
      The conversation went on. I told him I wasn’t ever going to be “Iron Chef” material but I could throw down in the kitchen. He lit up. “Throw Down.” I like that.” A few months later he had a new show named……………..
      Its Army-Navy weekend. Which is the weekend I met him. So only appropritate to share this little anecdote. I put a burger on my menu called the “Throwdown” but the “American Idiot” was the real jab. Chipoltle Cheese Whiz, fried jalapenos, fried onion straws.

      And thats my Bobby Flay story. And yes the “American Idiot Burger” is on the menu this weekend. Just because.
