Resurrection Kills Fried Chicken

Posted by Foobooz on December 20th, 2010

Since Bon Appetit called Resurrection Ale House’s fried chicken one of the ten best in America it has seemed the fame has sat awkwardly with the Resurrection staff. Just this summer the “Cockamamie Rule about the Chicken” was added, limiting the ordering of fried chicken to three per table and now Meal Ticket reports it is off the menu entirely.

Scanning the most recent menu indeed finds no mention of the much praised dish and the cockamamie rule is gone as well. Meal Ticket says it will return to the menu from time to time as a special and they aren’t ruling out a resurrection of the twice fried chicken but as of now, it is gone.

If you’re bummed about the 86ing of Resurrection’s chicken, at least there are still these other choices on our Fried Chicken Map.

Seems kind of dumb to get rid of your most popular dish. I was just there and was shocked to see it was gone.

I bet it comes back in three weeks at a higher price.

It’s been gone for weeks. I was there about a month ago, maybe 6 weeks and it was off the menu …

Old news. It’s been off the menu for several weeks now. Still, it’s a wait for a table on a Friday night.

I don’t get it. Why get rid of the best thing on the menu?

Am I the only one who thinks Hartranft’s policies at his spots are weird and keep me from coming back?

      - Pretty much being rushed by the servers to leave your table once the plates are cleared
      - Being told the tables are for eating only – why are you going to turn down a four person party who are about to blow a lot of money on good beer and tip graciously?
      - Drink minimums during quizzo at Local 44? OK, I kind of get that, but what if I’m looking to just eat and drink some soda? They require you buy alcohol during quizzo.

      I just don’t get it.

Seems a little childish to ditch the real crowd pleaser. I used to live around the corner and never like the place for more than a stop for one or two drinks. Most definitely an upgrade from yellobar though…

I liked the beer menu, but the food menu reminded me of the fashion sense of a second year UArts student – too overtly eclectic, mismatched, and a little over confident.

Ressurection just never emanated the neighborhoodiness and friendliness its nearby competitors (sidecar, grace) have achieved without effort.

Exactly Rascal! Adam Ritter brings the same quality selection of food and beer (at both of his places) along with a personable relationship to the neighborhood he serves. Bartenders are eager to give you beer samples but won’t give you a dirty look if you just want a PBR.

On the other hand, Resurrection refuses to give you a sample, which is kind of douchey. It’s like they think customers will abuse their draconian policies if they eliminate them. Not a very good up-front experience if you ask me…

      and I’m done hatin’.

I never really understood the attitude at Resurrection. Was once basically asked by the chef what I was expecting when I ordered pork belly for that price…rather than take responsibility for a poorly prepared product they try to write everything off on being better priced. I’d rather pay more and get quality than be sold on something “high-end” poorly prepared to cut costs.
