Grainery Coming to Center City

As we mentioned previously, the team behind East Falls’ Fork & Barrel and the Lehigh Valley’s Bookstore Speakeasy and Tap and Table is coming to Center City. We’ve just found out a bit more about the concept. It will be called the Grainery and will feature a small artisinal brewery on the premises.

Manning the brewery will be Terry Hawbaker who has been garnering high praise while running the Bullfrog in Williamsport, PA.

Lew Bryson has Hawbaker’s description of the operation:

The new place is called The Grainery. It will be located in center city Philly and is being put together by the Fork and Barrel folks. Think Fork and Barrel meets the Bookstore Speakeasy with a small artisanal brewery on premise.Very small brewery focusing on farmhouse ales, barrel-aged wild beers and all the freaky fun stuff… in addition there will be several more beers on tap and in bottle from all over the world with a bent towards the small, artisan producers from Scandinavia, Belgium, Italy, Germany and so forth.

Hawbaker and Bullfrog Brewery have won two medals at the Great American Beer Festival including a Bronze Medal in 2010 for Wood and Barrel Aged Sours Beers.

UPDATE: We’ve received the following message from Matt at Fork + Barrel:

Our new spot will NOT be a brewpub.  Terry Hawbaker from Bullfrog will be brewing one-off beer (barrel aged, sour and wild ales, etc…) on a very small, artisan scale.  Brewing will be one slice of the big picture.  Four of the 24+ taps will be for our house made beer, while the rest will be focus primarily on european small batch beer from areas of europe like scandinavia, italy, netherlands, etc…  We will be having an exciting victorian era cocktail program, designed and maintained, by the very talented mixologist, Damon Dyer, of NYC.  We will have a rustic food program consisting of house cured meats, game dishes, fresh harvested ingredients, and nose to tail feasts.
