Quick Bites: New Cafes, Sandwich Praise and Sushi

Posted by Foobooz on March 17th, 2011

The April issue of Saveur calls Philadelphia America’s Sandwich Capital. The magazine highlights Greenman’s Delicatessen, DiNic’s, Johnny’s Hots and McNally’s Tavern.

Big Eye Sushi is coming to the former Ro-Zu at 7th and Bainbridge. The Feast mentions that it may also mark the return of Todd Dae Kulper who was the opening chef at Ro-Zu. We touched base today with Steve Simons (co-owner of the Cantinas, Royal Tavern, Khyber Pass Pub) regarding his Japanese pub concept. He says Kulper is still on board and hopes to have the location settled soon. [The Feast]

Not one, not two but three Filter Cafes are opening in Philadelphia. The first will be at 252 S 12th Street and is aiming to open before the end of the month.. The cafes will feature Internet workstations, free wifi, coffee and tea. They also promise to stay open late. [Filter Cafes]

Le Pain Quotidien has chosen the former Robbins 8th and Walnut jewelry store for its second Philadephia location. [The Insider]
