Long standing Philadelphia restaurant Friday Saturday Sunday is changing its name and its focus. The spot that has been a romantic survivor from Philadelphia’s restaurant renaissance of the 1970s, its upstairs Tank Bar, a tranquil nook for couples for more than thirty years.

But the times change and as owner Weaver Lilley points out, “romance is dead but everyone still loves ice cream.” And with that as a guiding statement the restaurant is changing its name to Friday Saturday Sundae and its once popular Tank Bar will be replaced with an ice cream sundae bar.

A rotating selection of ice creams will be made in-house. Several of the initial flavors created by Chef Oi are inspired by favorite desserts from the restaurant including:

• Gran Marnier Creme Brulee
• Raspberry Caramel
• Jewish Apple Cake
• Coconut Cream Pie

Additional ice cream flavors will be brought in from well known ice cream parlors from the area. Expect to see ice creams from Franklin Fountain and Princeton’s The Bent Spoon. The sundae bar will be stocked with the freshest seasonal ingredients and when possible will be sourced locally.

Good news for people who don’t like change, the restaurant still has one of the friendliest wine policies; there’s never a corkage fee to bring your own wine and all wines on the list are sold for just $10 above cost.
