Quick Bites: New Thai & Cupcakes, More Cupcakes

Posted by Foobooz on April 7th, 2011

Meal Ticket gets the tip that a Thai restaurant is taking the place of the former Pico de Gallo at 15th and South. [Meal Ticket]

SweetBox has taken up position in front of the  Monell Chemical Senses Center at 35th and Market. The cupcake truck serves your traditional styles as well as one with a cookie dough center. [Meal Ticket]

Sweets by Samantha is also now rolling around town. This week her truck has been spotted on North and South Broad and today the truck is on Temple’s campus between 12th and 13th on Montgomery.

Don’t forget, for all your twittering truck needs, we’ve got Philadelphia’s Twittering Food Trucks List for you.

In reference to food truck twittering:
I have a twitter account, but this link goes nowhere for me on both my laptop and blackberry. Is there any way to publish the twitter feeds in a different format so we can find them on twitter?

I was watching Food Truck Revolution on the Cooking Channel last night, and other cities have so many options for food trucks, where it seems like 99% of the food trucks in Philly are for sweets. Why is that?

Acmestyle, Philly had lots of street food before it became trendy. Think all the trucks in West Philly by Penn and Drexel, and all the carts dotting Center City. As for the trendy new school ones with the fancy paintings, there are more than a couple selling sweets but in the overall count of food carts and trucks their number is tiny.

I had a dream last night about the Thai spot on 15th/South. Five words: Pok Pok Whiskey Soda Lounge. Is that aiming too high??

Sweets by Samantha, I cannot stand letting her go on without people hearing what I have to say… judge for yourself but be warned! I’ve eaten cupcakes all around the city, my top three are Brown Betty, Flying Monkey and a tie between Buttercream Truck and Philly Cupcake. THIS TRUCK IS AWFUL. Her chocolate chili cupcake has the texture of an inedible brownie and the flavor of a rubber band. While waiting in line, I heard her bad-mouthing her competition!! She is unprofessional and delivers a poor quality product. There are too many places that are better than to waste your time on this fool. I hope she has a back up plan, because she will not last…
