Another Excuse To Stay Close To Home: Philly Restaurant Named One Of Ten Best By Frommer’s

Frommer’s–the well-known travel pimps and hub of fevered international gastronaut daydreaming–has come out with its list of the 10 Best New Urban Restaurants in North America. And guess what? Philly made the list–standing tall beside Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

So which of our restaurants was it that Frommer’s decided was a match for Grant Achatz’s Next and China Poblano from Jose Andres? Those of you who recognize the fideua pictured above can probably figure it out. So can those who’ve been following our own Best New Restaurant voting (and the Twitter smack-talk referenced below). But for the rest of you, here’s a hint: It ain’t nothin’ being done by Starr, Garces or Vetri.

It’s Barbuzzo, the newest beachhead in Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran’s conquest of 13th Street. Here’s what Frommer’s had to say:

With a strict adherence to artisan-made ingredients, many of them local, Barbuzzo (www.barbuzzo.com) opened at the height of the fall harvest.Trey Popp’s Review of Barbuzzo This Mediterranean-themed restaurant, on 13th Street in Philadelphia’s Center City, is open for weekday lunches and dinner daily. Walls of white-washed brick (with cubby holes storing jars of colorful, preserved vegetables) complement vibrant dishes like Calabrian-style local greens, “pig popcorn,” roasted marrow bone, flatbread pizzas topped with off-beat rustic ingredients (Barlett pear or hot pickled peppers), and wood-roasted sardines Portuguesa.

Not bad, right? The only problem now is, if you thought it was hard to get a reservation in the close-set 65-seat dining room before, imagine what things are going to be like now…
