Well, you’re 2/3 right, Jenny…I wouldn’t call it a “rant.”

I actually really like the front door, it tells me something about what I can expect to find behind it. The draft prices look decent too, $6.50 for a half-liter of Franziskaner isn’t bad, Brauhaus charges a buck less but you can’t drink outside there of course. The bottle prices are crazy though, you can get Aventinus on draft at Brauhaus for half the price of the same size bottle at Frankford, and the same bottle of Celebrator is almost half the price at Brauhaus.

I would have expected less typos on the menu. The prices seem all over the place. A $7 pretzel seems contradictory to the idea of a beer garden. But I’ll stop by later to actually see what it is like instead of just reading about it.

$7 for a pretzel is ridiculous. I’m sure they’re big and fresh, but $7 for some dough and salt is highway robbery. That needs to be changed, and schnell.

Think of the Frankford Pretzel as an Aspirational Product, like an iPod… Imagine yourself living a life where quaffing greek-debt-financing German beers and munching $7 pretzels “ain’t no thing.” Wouldn’t that be great? Those of us who can afford them will buy them, and those of us that can’t afford them might buy some anyway as a luxury, and to perhaps project a social status that’s a little different than our economic status. The same way an iPod or a cool set of shoes can catapult one into the cool kids club. With time, these aspirational brands become commoditized.. that is to say, the price of iPods becomes more affordable relative to the costs of other goods. So, with any luck, someday we’ll all be able to afford to enjoy a $7 pretzel at Frankford Hall, and the elite supercool status that it will still hopefully confer!

Those beer prices are atrocious. Using one of the popular beer locator sites, you can find most of those drafts at plenty of bars where it will be $1-$2 cheaper for a full pint. Don’t even start me on the bottle prices…. Celebrator can be had for $6 at quite a few spots, Aventinus $8. None of these are rare beers that warrant those prices.

By August they’ll be doing domestic buckets and pitchers and the menu will be that of a sportsbar. How are they ever going to fill 400 seats with this overpriced menu?

Not too shabby. I would recommend checking it out.
