I got one of their $15 lobster rolls at rittenhouse row fest, and honestly I thought it was kind of a rip off. It was almost identical to a 3.99 made to order lobster roll that every stop & shop has in the summer. Granted you have to find a stop & shop but still..

what are they celebrating? ripping everyone off, methinks.

Lobster rolls are 10-15 even in coastal Maine. Maybe a little fresher, but the Oyster House version is a very good sandwich, stacks up against Rockland and Camden, ME any day.

@Willie I didn’t realize that. I got the $15 Rittenhouse Row special as well. Wow $26 is pretty offensive, honestly it almost angers me.

I went on a lobster tour of Maine a few years ago, my brother lives up there. This one was my favorite lobster roll for anyone ever visiting up there.

Lobster is overrated and overpriced just about everywhere.

I can’t believe the carping about the Oyster Houses’ lobster roll. For God’s sake if you’re turned off by the $26 price don’t buy it, but in my opinion this is one of the best lobster rolls, in or out of Maine, that I’ve ever tasted. I was not at the Rittenhouse Row festival so I don’t know what they served on the street, but in the Oyster House, the lobster roll is so overflowing with lobster meat you can hardly get it in your mouth. The roll is just right (trucked in from Maine, I believe) and the lobster meat is succulent and there is not too much mayonnaise. I used to like the lobster roll at Phila. Fish and Co, before they 1) ruined it by slopping it in so much mayo they should have called it a lobster salad, and 2) blessedly going out of business. Long Live the Oyster House and its lobster roll.

Willie, like any commodity lobster fluctuates in price from season to season greatly. It depends a lot on the winter weather they receive in coastal Maine as well as sound fishery management. Maine has done a great job of managing its lobster fisheries but it is still subject to the wiles of nature. Just because lobster has gotten much cheaper over the last season or two doesn’t mean that it will remain that way, and to be honest I hope it doesn’t. Keeping the price up helps reduce the demand for a very limited resource (those delicious lobsters with the giant claws ONLY come from northern New England and the Maritime Provinces). If a restaurant is constantly changing the prices of their dishes it seems inconsistent to the diners and may turn people off as they won’t know what to expect when they come in each time.

All that being said, I agree that $26 is hefty for a lobster roll, but as a native Mainer I would gladly pay the extra for a heaping portion of lobster and true authenticity. The roll is KEY people! Now if only they’d start serving red hot dog dinners with baked beans and brown bread I’d be a happy transplant here in Philly.

Well I went to try one of these rolls for myself today to judge their authenticity and they sold out in less than an hour! FAIL.
