How We’re Going to Waste Our Day
Posted by Foobooz on July 19th, 2011

Honest Tea has an unmanned iced tea stand set up at 5th and Market today. You can watch a web camera to see if people are being honest and leaving a dollar for their tea or grabbing that iced tea and running. It’s mesmerizing to watch the moral dilemma in some of the people’s body language.
Update: Philadelphia wound up being the 6th most honest city with 96% of the people participating leaving a dollar.

What happens when somebody takes the whole box of bucks?
July 19th, 2011 at 12:29 pm
I just saw one guy read the promotional matierial and then go around behind the signage and grab a drink.
i’d love it if the company posted the pictures of people who did not pay!

Hidden camera for “Honest Tea”? Clearly this isn’t “Trust Tea”.

Who’s the guy in the Yankees cap and shades taking dozens of bottles?!
July 19th, 2011 at 12:48 pm
Wait… Yankees cap dude is putting them back. Maybe he works for them? Faith in humanity: restored.
July 19th, 2011 at 12:54 pm
Ah, my bad. I see the Yankees (wtf?) fan is taking them out of what apparently is an ice filled container.

OH SHIT! The Yankee cap guy filled up the bucket and ran off with it!!! AAAAAHAHAHA thats not cool!
July 19th, 2011 at 1:39 pm
Now the Yankees cap guy just put chewed gum on the end of a bent wire hanger and is fishing out $1′s!

just fyi – the ice tea is not warm. It’s cold, they are taking out of a cooler.

“Who feels morally obligated to pay $1 for piss warm iced tea?” – Seriously? How ridiculous. Anyway, I love the concept of this.

Goober Says: “Who feels morally obligated to pay $1 for piss warm “iced” tea?”
Someone who isn’t a scum bag thief.

Why hasn’t anyone dropped some dance moves in front of the camera yet? It’s apparent that some people know they’re being filmed.
July 19th, 2011 at 2:42 pm
Yankees dude just molested a chihuahua. Is there no evil Yankees fans aren’t capable of?
July 19th, 2011 at 2:45 pm
This is almost as exciting as watching the live feed from Big Brother.
July 19th, 2011 at 3:02 pm
No, Yankees fan! Stop pushing elderly people into traffic when they attempt to stop for a cold iced tea!
The nerve of some people!
July 19th, 2011 at 3:02 pm
Did that Asian guy just do the worst re-stocking job ever, or did he make off with most of the tea *and* the barrel they were in?
July 19th, 2011 at 3:22 pm
Well this is highly rewarding. Like that scene in Clerks where Dante Hicks is hanging out on the floor with his honey, only real.
July 19th, 2011 at 3:30 pm
Was that Shola Olunloyo who just took a drink without paying? SCUMBAG!

This is nothing like me hanging out with Veronica. But I keep seeing Randals every five minutes…

This is stupidly addictive to watch
July 20th, 2011 at 2:21 am
I can’t see this working everywhere!
July 20th, 2011 at 1:26 pm
If you tried this in California, the vehicle towing the stand would have been carjacked and ransacked before it even made it to the test site. That should be about all the data you need to calculate Southern California honesty.

If the camera is hidden, then it’s a good little study. However, if people can see the camera, they tend to behave differently because they know they’re being watched….But it sounds like Philly folks to me
Having lived there for years, I have to say that I have never met more decent, kind, and warm people. since the Mason-Dixon line is so close, you sort of get a sense of the old “Southern Hospitality” vibe in Philly, which stands out for me coming from the stodgy, uptight, self-absorbed and completely pretentious world that is Connecticut. I miss Philly
Nicely done Philly!
