We haven’t done a wrap-up like this for some time, not that we haven’t reported any bad news but these all came across our desk in short time.

Gardenia at the Art Alliance is closing after brunch this Sunday. This bad news comes with a promising silver lining. The attractive space just off of Rittenhouse Square won’t be dark long, Restaurant Associates which manages the space will have in-house chef Ed Brown remaking the restaurant and hiring a Philadelphia chef. The design is being done by Elisabeth Knapp who has also designed Zahav, Xochitl and Percy Street Barbecue.

The paddle-wheeler Philadelphia Belle is dead in the water and has left guests without a life preserver, including one couple who is out a wedding venue and $18,998. [Philadelphia Inquirer]

6ABC was on the scene of an overnight fire at South Street’s Baja Room. The fire damaged the first floor but upstairs residents escaped unharmed. [6ABC]
