Fried Chicken Cometh, Fried Chicken Leaveth

Resurrected Fried Chicken

The Bon Appetit praised fried chicken is going back on the menu at Resurrection Ale House. On Wednesday, September 21st the Grays Ferry Ave bar will be celebrating its second anniversary with nothing but fried chicken offered from opening till 5 p.m. From 5 onward it is complimentary small bites. On the 22nd, the honey drizzled twice-fried chicken will again grace the menu.

But before we could even come down from the joy of this news Meritage punched us in the gut with the news that this is the last week for Korean fried chicken at the 20th Street restaurant. You only have tonight and tomorrow to enjoy the sweet and spicy sesame glazed chicken. It’s $18 and served with collard greens and mac & cheese.

And before you ask, yes Michael Solomonov’s Federal Donuts is coming. Look for the doughnut and fried chicken spot to open before September becomes October.

So does that mean the chicken is back on the menu permanently after the 22nd? Or just for those 2 days, Sept 21/22?

It will be back on the menu full-time starting on the 22nd. Though quantities will be limited each day because of fryer capacity. What won’t be back is the Cockamamie Rule about the Chicken.

I tried going to Meritage twice this summer for the “famous” korean fried chicken. The first time I showed up at 7:30 and they had run out of chicken. It was the first week they were doing it, so I gave them a pass.

The second time was last night, and when I called in advance of my 8PM reservation, they said they had run out again so I cancelled my reservation.

Are they trying to make the product difficult to get? And what do they accomplish by that? I find it hard to believe that the kitchen team is that bad at forecasting demand and ordering product.

Anyone else have the same experience?

@MrMarsellus it wasn’t that good anyway.

Too late to help, but the trick was to reserve the chicken ahead of time. I thought it was delicious, though I never went one of the days where they actually served it with mac + cheese and collards.

I was lucky enough to walk into Meritage last night and order what my server told me was the last order of fried chicken! So delicious, I saved some to enjoy tonight too.
Wasn’t served with mac and cheese and collards, but delicious yellow watermelon and cole slaw.

I agree with Barryg. Meritage’s fried chicken just isn’t that good. It’s basic fried chicken, without the shatteringly crisp skin and strong flavors of real KFC. It’s absolutely nothing like the twice fried goodness served at Soho Cafe, and at Bonchon, etc.
