We welcome our robot overlords

One of the highlights of Feastival last night was getting our first taste of Federal Donuts. The team of Michael Solomonov, Steve Cook and Felicia D’Ambrosio were offering hot samples belched out by their donut robot. The doughnut offered up last night was the tossed in sugar, cocoa and Apollonia spice blend made by Lior Lev Sercarz of Boite d’Epices. Lev Sercarz also creates special spice blends for Solomonov’s Zahav.

Our first taste of the doughnut was both familiar and unusual. The cocoa and sugar made it recognizable and comforting, the Middle Eastern spices created a unique and tingly taste that will be sought out by foodies from far and wide.

Federal Donuts is still under construction on 2nd Street near Federal.

      It’s not good mojo for a fried chicken & doughnuts joint to go to a foodie event and have someone else’s fried chicken be the star of the show (QLove). Just sayin’ – step it up, Mike Solo.

      I don’t get it:
      Solo buys a “Betty Home Maker” version of a donut maker and the Foobooz world is ablaze… If someone gets a Easy Bake Oven and pumps out some cupcakes, the server might crash

      I, for one, welcome our donut robot overlords.

      Hope Federal will consider staying open later: one of the reasons so many chefs fell in love with Korean Fried Chicken is that it could be gotten late at night, if one were willing to trek to the NE. I’d love to avoid the driving but still get some late-night chicken. Donuts too.
