New Life for Boot & Saddle on Broad Street

Boot & Saddle - Country & Western (South Philadelphia)

There’s a new liquor license in the window at the old Boot & Saddle bar on Broad Street near Ellsworth. BootPhilly LLC is the corporation name and is registered to 1845 Walnut Street, the same address as Avram Hornik’s 4 Corners Management.

A call to the office revealed nothing more than that a lot people at 4 Corners don’t come to work on Fridays.

A post by the South Broad Neighbors Association on Facebook also alluded to Hornik.

We’ll be following this one excitedly as we’ve long wished for the Boot & Saddle sign to be re-illuminated.

      OMG! I went to school at St. Rita’s (used to be near 15th and Ellsworth) and grew up on 12th and Federal. I’m 40, and have NEVER seen this open..or even ever saw anybody inside. I would love to see something happen here!

      And with the Broad Street Diner, too. Preferably something edible. With all the foodie goodness happening down there (sure, now that I don’t live there anymore) there’s gotta be somebody who wants to take it over and do something fantastic.

      @Gloria, unfortunately, the Broad Street Diner is being take over by the new owner of the Melrose.

      I’m 35 and I definitely remember the Boot and Saddle being open. In fact I had one of my first ever drinks there when I was like 17. Glad to see it’s getting rejuvenated.

      I saw something on the zoning notice about 1521 cafe on spruce, new owners and a new license. something also about an entertainment license or something

        Dan, the liquor license application shows the license is being transferred from the former Ernesto’s. An entertainment permit means there could be live performances but also is necessary to legally have dancing.

      my mother worked here in 1970-1971 she met my father a navy man while bartending. it would be cool to see this place in person

      We used to hang around there in the mid seventies. We were in the Marine Corps and worked at the supply center, which are condos now. Pastie dancers, two pinball machines, underage servicemen, and there was a stage and small dance floor int the back. Mirror ball too.

      Pete senior owned it, Pete junior and girlfriend worked there. I even rented a timy apartment from Pete on the other side of Broad on Ellsworth. Used to eat Meleno Hoagies.
