The 10th annual First Person Arts Festival is set for November 10th to 20th. This year the festival is expanding to 11 days featuring local and nationally known artists in theater, film, literature, visual art, and storytelling — all inspired by real life experience. As always there are a number of worthwhile food events including a nightly happy hour at Khyber Pass Pub.
Behind the Scenes at Reading Terminal Market with Rick Nichols, Nichols leads a food tour through the Market’s new renovations and different food stalls. There will be food samples and Market celebs. Ann Karlen of Fair Food Farmstand and Tommy Nicolosi of DiNic’s Roast Pork will talk to the tour about what it’s like to work at such an important Philly food establishment. Only 20 spots are available.
Day of Honey is a book talk and Middle Eastern dinner from Sahara Grill with author Annia Ciezadlo, a reporter who covered the news in Beirut and Iraq at the start of the Iraq War. Her new book focuses on the central role that food plays in the lives of people in the Middle East.
Shucked is a new memoir about a Boston food and lifestyle writer who left her cushy job to work on an oyster farm. DiNardo’s will host a seafood dinner where the author, Erin Byers Murray, will talk about and read from the book.
My So-Called Enemy is a totally unique event- a documentary film screening and “Peace Meal.” The film follows six Palestinian and Israeli teenage girls as they forge friendships and try to overcome differences at a New Jersey summer camp. After the film, Zahav caters a “Peace Meal,” a facilitated group discussion about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
Starting Friday, November 11th, upstairs at the Khyber Pass Pub will feature drink specials and live performances. Happy Hour runs 6 to 8:30 p.m. First Person Festival ticket holders also get 10% off their food orders at the Khyber Pass Pub.
