So American Sardine Bar Might Be Open

Posted by Foobooz on November 21st, 2011

Primanti Bros. Inspired Pittsburgh Cheesesteak

Yesterday a couple friends texted that were in American Sardine Bar and having a drink and the kitchen was open and serving Scott Schroeder’s sandwich-focused menu of sardines, imitation crab and Walt Wit braised pork. However American Sardine Bar’s Twitter feed wasn’t acknowledging that they were open. In fact late last night they lamented that they should have soft-opened. We guess denying you’re open is what passes for a soft opening in the now almost 24-hours a day food news cycle.

So if you’re feeling lucky, head over this evening, maybe they’ll be open. Or wait to the official opening this Wednesday. One way or another, check out Drew Lazor’s photos of the interior and food.

Their facebook page says they’ll officially be open for business this Wednesday the 23rd.

‘One thing you definitely can’t get here, aside from a beefy patty — your sandwich cut in half by the kitchen. Do it yourself if you really want it sliced that bad, Schroeder says. Exceptions to this rule, according to the chef, include “paraplegics and unattended 4-year-olds.”‘

That Schroeder sure is a class act.

How deos that chef get anything done with all his tweeting? #backinthekitchen

      Jason,

Schroeder is a seriously talented chef, and if you wonder what he does while Tweeting, taste anything on the SPTR menu. All homeruns.

And as for him being a class act, he truly is. His sense of humor is foul, but so what? Have you ever worked in a kitchen? Would you rather have a chef who pretends for the cameras and journos than someone like Schroeder?

He cooks food. Really well. And that’s all we need him to do.
