Dinner In Alsace

Posted by Foobooz on January 10th, 2012

On January 25th and 26th Brauhaus Schmitz’s chef Jeremy Nolen and Bistrot La Minette’s Peter Woolsey will be collaborating in a Alsatian dinner at Bistrot La Minette. Alsace is the region in eastern France that borders Germany and its cuisine shares much with German food. The two chefs will collaborate on a four-course, $35 dinner at Bistrot La Minette.

Carrelet au Traminer Poached local fluke, Gewurztraminer Hollandaise glaze, Shallot confit, mushrooms

Coq au Riesling et Buewespaetzle  Chicken braised in reisling, potato dumplings, crème fraiche, lardons

Choucroute Garnie Strasbourg sausage, marteau sausage, bacon rasher, sauerkraut, fingerling potato

Tarte au Fromage Blanc Fromage blanc tart, white wine poached pear, white wine reduction

As a second passing thought, the fact that it’s considered normal to have a $35 menu go up to $65 with ‘normal drinks’ also tends to indicate that there’s something desperately wrong with the pricing equation in most Philadelphia restaurants, but my perception is certainly skewed by the fact that I was born in Europe.

Uh, sorry, wrong tab. That was meant for Vetri vs. restaurant week.
