Craig LaBan Sings the Praises of Loco Pez
Posted by Foobooz on January 16th, 2012

Secret menus, gastro treats and killer margaritas, Craig LaBan discovers it all at Loco Pez.
I never thought I’d savor the hard-shelled Old El Paso taco dinner of my youth again until I ran into Hunt’s “Gabacho.” That’s pejorative slang for a Mexican who acts like a gringo, and is the perfect name for this house-fried taco shell whose crispy channel is stuffed with Pat LaFrieda’s trendy Creekstone ground beef, seasoned up with cuminy onion-powder-paprika magic, then topped with a classic lettuce shred and pico de gallo.

Erm, the nachos and tacos here are a hit, but the burritos are a miss.
Why do authentic Mexican places (e.g. Veracruzana) make better ‘Americanized’ Mexican food than the Americanized Mexican food places?

Most taquerias make awful burritos, I knew Jose’s was an exception, didn’t know about Veracruzana, will have to try them out.

Weren’t there any restaurants he could have reviewed? What’s next, Peck Miller’s in Roxbourough? “The pickeled eggs were divine!” C’mon Laban!
