Last week Delicatessen closed after a two year run at 703 Chestnut Street. Today a Craigslist post offers the two-floor property for lease. Monthly rent would be $6,800 and the equipment can be yours for $10,000.

      Bummer. They had a great whitefish sandwich. I occasionally have to work in this neighborhood and when I do, the lunch breaks are short. I could use a rec for a new place to get a decent quick bite within a 3-minute walk of here

      I loved that place. It would have helped if it could have gotten a few mentions here. Why the snub?

      Jacques, if you were to click the delicatessen tag at the bottom of the post, you would find they got numerous mentions on foobooz. So, not exactly a snub.

      It is ashame it closed. I thought the food was awesome. I hope the team from Delicatessen comes back on the scene with a new business in the future.

      Just started working around the corner from this place and had scoped it out as a lunch possbility in this virtual desert of lunch spots. Me too for lunch recommendations in this area!

      Unless you count Bain’s deli in the Bourse (which I don’t), the only other deli nearby is Zeke’s on 5th between Spruce and Pine. It’s not as good as some of the others in town, but it’s serviceable. Hamifgash on Sansom btwn. 8th and 9th is good–try the chicken shawarma. Sandwiches to go from Old Nelson’s at 7th and Chestnut are good, as is Honey on Market between 6th and 7th. If you don’t mind a little more of a walk, you have the Reading Terminal, all of Chinatown, and the Khyber and Han Dynasty in old City.

      Tex, what about the place next door to Old Nelson on Chestnut, In The City Delicatessen?

      Oops, ignore my previous post. I didn’t realize that’s the place that closed. Bummer.

      Thank you Tex! I am definitely going to try Hamifgash. Have been walking to Maoz far too often so I really should give Reading Terminal a try. Have done Honey & the Khyber already! I miss working in the other end of town.

      Does Cooperage do lunch?

      Cooperage does lunch but I wouldn’t go back for it after the one I had there. People in my office seem to dig it however. Great bar; not so much on the food.
