Green Light for Construction at Shake Shack

Posted by Foobooz on January 19th, 2012

The Southwest corner of 20th and Sansom is set to become Shake Shack. The last of the former tenants has moved on and construction crews are moving in. All the tenants found new storefronts in the area with the exception of the adult book store which seems to be gone for good.

The windows have been blacked out and construction workers are busily readying the space for demolition.

With construction set to begin in earnest Danny Meyer’s Shake Shack is looking at a late-summer, early fall opening.

Finally! I used to work about a block from the first one and I really, really miss it…Danny Meyer knows his Concretes, too.

I don’t get the hype over this chain. I waited for an hour for a decent burger that i couldn’t order rare. Sorry but i will wait across the street for a Village Whiskey burger. Don’t get me wrong i love having places like this that have a buzz like Bobby Flay’s burger joint but it doesn’t mean they are worth the hype.

I would rather have my barber back.

How hard is it to understand that this is a fast-food burger, not a restaurant burger? We all love a VW burger, but it’s comparing apples to oranges (and $11 to $4.50). As that, it is the best fast-food burger there is. Plus, as Lisa wrote, the custard is awesome.

Jimmy, Silvio has moved down the block to 267 S 20th Street. It was or is Domenick’s barber shop.

      Long Live John’s Books.

Fabulous, I can get my porn game on at John’s and then conveniently stop next door for a cool shake. That’s how it’s supposed to be.

Did Silvio own the book store as well? The other guy working in there was named John. The shoe repair guy there was also very talented, wonder where he will end up.

silvio is at domenick’s? I’d guess it’s still domenick’s as someone on yelp said john (the other barber at silvio’s) is across the street. I wish he’d been able to move the shop. anyway, village whiskey is a ver different kind of burger. in my experience, shake shack is more like bobby flay’s and five guys but better…that is, small, tasty burger. and anyway, vilage whiskey can’t handle anymore volume

Mmm, Shake Shack! Now if we could just get an In-n-Out, my burger paradise would be complete. Does anyone know where the shoe repair shop moved to?

The shoe repair is just down the street on 20th between Walnut and Locust in back of the Rittenhouse Hotel.
