Philly Farm & Food Fest This Weekend

Now that drawing a connection between local farms and local eating has gotten cool and continued on toward freezing, the once industry-only Philly Farm and Food Fest has gone public.

For the first time ever, on Sunday, Fair Food and the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture are inviting the washed masses to hob nob with regional farmers and the chefs who patronize them at a day-long expo at the convention center. From 11am – 4pm, more than 100 local farmers, food producers and providers of sustainable goods and services will offer samples and lead kid-friendly activities (like an “ABC’s of Beekeeping” seminar and the local foods scavenger hunt). Adults who want to do some hardcore learning can sit in on presentations like the “More than a Cuppa” tea tasting and the “Land Use Policy & Planning for Farming” class for serious farm-to-table wonks.

But even if you designate yourself an expert after these courses, you’ll still have to leave before the Buyer’s Reception for wholesalers that runs from 4:30-6pm.
