Ortlieb’s Lounge Opening in Mid-Month

Ortlieb’s Lounge has announced that the reborn Orltlieb’s Jazzhaus will reopen with live entertainment on Tuesday, April 17th. Rebuilt by Four Corners Management and  Avram Hornik will offer a variety of live entertainment six nights a week including “Jazz Jam Sessions” on Tuesdays. The night will be hosted by former Ortlieb’s owner and booker, Pete Souders. Wednesday will feature and “Open Mic Soul Jam” and Thursdays will headline the Ortlieb’s house band, “Sittin’ Back” with Slo’n Shakey.

Weekends will include a mix of rock, funk and soul spun by Philadelphia DJs and Sundays will be dedicated to an open mic comedy night.


Ortlieb’s Lounge will include a full bar with 10 rotating local and national craft drafts, signature cocktails and a full bar. For food a full menu of Tex-Mex pub food will be served until 11 p.m. each night.

      I think this neighborhood has more than enough tex-mex at this point, guys.

      It’s an Avram venue, which in my opinion and experience means lowbrow goons, cheap drinks, drunks on your lawn, violence and lower quality of life for neighbors. Thus ends the improvement years enjoyed by Northern Liberties

      Sucks how blogs seem to cultivate an environment of little bitches that like to cry and complain. I for one am excited that a Philly institution has been revived and is keeping true to its live jazz/soul roots. All this fool can do is complain about how they are serving tacos. pffffft… idiot

      I’m not complaining about tacos, so much as complaining about a lack of diversity and imagination inherent in the businesses opening around here lately. Anyone who opens up yet another gastropub or tex-mex food jawn in this area deserves to fail.

      You won’t hear me complaining when Circles opens up, because Thai food is something that does not exist here. We could definitely use a better Chinese food option, as well.

      Look, I have fond memories of the old Ortliebs, too. I’m glad someone is doing something with that space, which I walk past every single day. But am I going to get excited that it’s turning into yet another NoLibs bar with DJ nights and tacos? I can’t. I don’t think that makes me a “little bitch” so much as it makes me a resident who already has like seven places to go get a fucking taco within two blocks of my house.

      Your definition of ‘improvement’ is subjective. More swanky clubs / Bmws / culturally ignorant newcomers doesn’t mean the neighborhood has improved, just changed. Having this jazz institution back open might actually help enlighten some of your neighbors to the culture and history of their city. I just hope to god they realize early on that the floorplan isn’t really ideal for anything but bowling or jazz combos, and they bring this place back to what it once was!!!
