Hornik Gives an Interview, Names His Riverfront Bar

Avram Hornik’s Ortlieb’s Lounge

The Philadelphia Daily News scores an interview with Avram Hornik, the man behind Lucy’s Hat Shop, Noche, three Drinker’s locations and more recently, Union Transfer and Ortlieb’s Lounge. It’s an interesting look at the man and how he now sees live entertainment as vital to the places he’s looking to open.

And as a follow-up Michael Klein gets the name for Hornik’s successor to Octo. The riverfront bar with live entertainment will be known as Morgan’s Pier, in honor of the first person to cross the Ben Franklin Bridge.

      HE IS PARTLY TO BLAME !!!

      Actually, I don’t think any of his places required pat downs or metal detectors. At least his places are still open and are not the Club of the month that is hot until the next new one opens.

      He seems to average a shooting or stabbing every six months at or originated from one of his places. Fights seem to average weekly. He is cause/effect to tragedy IMHO.

      The incident with the guy who was beaten to death a few months ago started at Lucy’s.

      I was going to say… they have removed the comments from the philly.com thread, but it looks like there’s nothing good to be gained from having a Hornick establishment in your neighborhood. He is absolutely to blame for the Kless murder (it has been implied that Kless met his attackers earlier that evening in Lucy’s, even though two of the three were underage), and neighbors in Rittenhouse and Old City chimed in about the negative effects of his bars on their blocks. If you pay attention to media mentions of Hornick for ten minutes, you’ll see a pattern of nuisance crimes and violence.

      Ask any police officer who patrols near a Hornick establishment and you will get the ugly truth.
