Farm-to-Table May be the Buzzword, But Good Food Is Always in Style

Posted by Foobooz on April 25th, 2012

It’s another new name in Philadelphia Weekly’s Food section. Christina Perachio reviews the truly farm-to-table, Russet.

“Farm-to-table,” “garden,” “local,” “sustainable,” “organic”: these have become buzzwords in the restaurant industry, one that seems to look more and more like a living, breathing Portlandia skit each time a new spot flicks on its Edison bulbs and plants an herb garden on its roof. But why be cynical? It may be a trend, but the food’s great—and that’s no fad.

Sounds delicious, but I guess they’re ashamed of their prices since they aren’t listed on their website. I’ll just stay home until that’s rectified, thanks.

I ate here with my wife on day two of operations. Based on that experience, it was the second most disappointing opening of the year in my opinion (Tashan taking first place by a mile). However, everyone I know that has gone recently has unequivocally stated that the food is great and a number of local restaurant folk have told me it’s the best value in center city.

I’m pretty excited to try it again. Hopefully, I have finally learned to avoid restaurants in the first few weeks of their operations!

Yea, sadly it is just not a good qpr here. Food is unoriginal and not particularly falteringly presented and relatively expensive. Just go to Farm and Fisherman. The food, service, presentation and qpr is better.

QPR? WTF is that, Queens Park Rangers FC?

Quality-price ratio, probably. (It’s not until the second page of Google results that you get past the Queens Park Rangers references to a list of other abbreviations.) I think I’ll go do something productive now.

sorry dudes. forgot this was a pretentious food blog, not a wine blog. my bad. i’ll be sure to compartmentalize my pretentious cliches in the future.

Hm…we must have eaten on different nights. I was not impressed with Russet. Sformato was boring and a touch burnt, ravioli were two steps too al dente and the dessert was underwhelming. Gnocchi was fantastic though..
