About Last Night: The Night Market, In Photos

Posted by Jason Sheehan on May 25th, 2012

So last night was the year’s first Night Market and we had Yoni Nimroad (of Cook fame, and current occasional photo ninja for the Foobooz Mobile Party Unit) on scene with his camera to capture the sights and scenes.

While a picture might be worth a thousand words, it’s also worth zero calories, so if you couldn’t make last night’s Night Market, maybe these snaps will show you what you missed. On the other hand, if you were there, now you’ll have a record of all the awesomeness to show your friends. And who knows? Maybe Yoni made you famous…

Obviously, our intrepid shooter made a beeline for Pitruco the minute he showed up–which you can tell by the fact that it’s still light out.

Early birds get worms. Early photographers get pizza.

More smart folks lining up early.

Smoke Truck was a big draw last night. Why?

Because look at that friggin’ menu! I’ll take one of everything, then one more of everything on the side.

The smart consumer knows that Jesus gave us two hands so that we can hold two sausages at the same time. (Anyone who makes a sausage joke here is a Communist.)

The line at Renaissance was long and winding.

Look! It’s Anderson Cooper at Rival Coffee! (Okay, not really)

I was looking for the YOU MUST BE AT LEAST THIS TALL TO ATTEND THE NIGHT MARKET sign everywhere…

The scene after the sun went down: An intimate party for you and 20,000 of your closest friends.

One of the (many) reasons I like Sugar Philly? You have to eat your macaroons before you can have dessert.

Guapos Tacos, making its appearance.

Casing the joint, plotting their big Food Truck Heist…

The Night Market was great to have in NoLibs. However, I am sad to say that the clean up efforts were severely lacking! The trash was merely piled on the sidewalks. There were no street cleaning trucks from the city. White napkins littered 2nd St like confetti. Whose responsible? The Food Trust? The City?

Oh Lordy, Lauree, you must be a regular poster on the Northern Liberties Message Board! Such a closed off group and all most of them ever do is WHINE WHINE WHINE!! Just STOP IT. STOP IT!!! Yeah, it was a well-attended and very fun event. And, guess what? There’s a lot of trash. Boo freakin’ hoo. Are you kidding me?? You walk around this neighborhood, or just about anywhere in Philly, lately? There is a lot of trash. Period. It sucks, certainly. But it is a fact of life. Get over it and get over yourself already. I wish that entire group would move to Florida and live in a gated community. You’re all really qualified for it, whether you know it or not. The rest of us will stay here and have a great time. And, we’ll take care of things WITHOUT the WHINE.

Stretford Dog, I think your response is a bit out of line. Yeah, these events are great, but after the crowds are gone, there are still people who live there. I don’t think Lauree was whining; she’s allowed to be annoyed about excessive trash in her neighborhood and to question who’s accountable.

From that I take it that Stretford was out picking up the trash – you know, taking care of things. No? Oh, you are just whining? Got it.

I don’t see the excessive littering as being any different than a restaurant dumping its trash on the sidewalk. Speaking as a restaurant owner, serving great food is a small part of the entire responsibility of the establishment and food trucks should be forced to adhere to the same standards of cleanliness. Us brick and mortar businesses spend a fortune on trash disposal and would be fined an astronomical amount for a trash strewn sidewalk. I am in agreement with Lauree that the area should never have been left in that state. If that involves all of the trucks renting dumpsters for the day than so be it. Trash disposal is a major issue and should have been addressed before the event.
