Good Dog’s Packed, Let’s Go to Cheesecake Factory???

Could the same block that houses an Applebees and Max Brenner be getting a Cheesecake Factory? That’s what NakedPhilly is reporting this morning. The real estate site says that the two story building stretching from Walnut Street to Moravian along 15th Street will be demolished to make way for a four-story commercial space.

It has previously been reported that Elixr Coffee is already planning to relocate to Walnut and Sydenham Streets (next to Chipotle) but no word about what might be in store for Miga, the Korean restaurant that also shares the 15th Street building.

      Cheesecake Factory, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel…….While most see this as a sign that the city has arrived, taste for the tasteless. It’s more of a sign of a bland vanilla box, steril existence. This also goes for the super Walgreens for Broad and Chestnut. Who the f**k cares ?

      Gross, but probably good overall for Walnut street. I imagine this will draw tourists and convention center people to Walnut street where they might spend some money. Not everyone is very adventurous when it comes to food. This will most likely just draw people away from Bucca, Max Brenner, and Applebees.

      Agreed. CC dining should be a food experience, not a food factory.

      What a disaster. This outdated low rise building provides the character that makes Walnut St successful. If any of you understood retail you’d know that. Take away the blight and you destroy the neighborhood. This crap is the reason I moved to Manhattan.

      So why are you on here MTEMPLE, go and enjoy Manhattan which is funny because anytime I’m in Manahttan I think how Odd it is that I find the likes of Planet Hollywood easily, but not so much the restaurants that make up NYC. I know they exist but not quite as easy to get my hands on as it is here, one CCF isn’t going to take away from the boat load of great restaurants we have in CC.

      I say bring it but stop putting this sort of nonsense on or near Walnut. The Gallery (and surrounding areas) would be perfect.

      These tenants belong at the Girard trust site at 12th and Market. Lush will relocate in the area but i’m afriad that Miga might be gone for good which would be a shame. Oh well the chining of Cneter city is inevitable but I don’t have to like it.

      Just as bad is the idea of a bank moving in on the corner, as reported by Naked Philly. CCF is supposed to go on the second floor, at least. Then there’s supposed to be a third retail tenant on the third and fourth floors?

      mtemple: that’s the reason you moved to Manhattan? Because you think working in retail makes you an authority on urban design? Nice. Now go back to your full-time job at Olive Garden in Times Square

      Great sarcasm Mtemple even if it went over most peoples head. I’ll believe it’s CheeseCake Factory when the doors open. BarryG what do you have against big chain stores ?

      I’m from Elkins Park and this still won’t get me to come into center city.

      Good, somewhere else for tourists to go while we enjoy our fantastic local food/drink scene.

      Cheesesteak Factory will not destroy Walnut Street. As chains go, the food is decent and the place is attractive. It will bring jobs to Center City and their well trained servers will be a good addition. And tourists, which most people seem to have disdain for, are great for the city. It is good clean business and they all leave money when they go.

      I’m a little surprised it would be a CCF and not their higher end concept Gran Lux or the even more elite concept, whatever it’s called. GL makes much more sense on Walnut as opposed to CCF.

      I like chains. No, they don’t often keep money in the community, but we’ll be fine.

      People act ridiculous over chains. If you take them for what they are, they are actually quite enjoyable, amusing even.
