Fish To Return June 12

Posted by Foobooz on June 1st, 2012

Mike Stollenwerk’s Fish closed suddenly a couple of weekends ago and has remained closed since. Michael Klein is reporting that the restaurant will reopen on June 12th with a tweaked concept and its promised courtyard.

UPDATE: Not returning when Fish reopens, pastry chef Monica Glass who will be consulting.

Huh…I guess Monica wanted to get paid for her work!

      Stollenwerk is a clown.

Mike is not fully to blame, so get it right. The reason why fish closed suddenly is because paychecks for the entire staff were null and void, some people even three weeks behind. From what I just heard from an insider, even paychecks from two weeks ago are not able to be handed out for fear that they might “bounce”.

The restaurant always looked busy. Where did all the money go?

Probably to pay for the star studded Kitchen staff. No restaurant in the city could afford what they must have been spending on chefs. Seems irresponsible.

If Mike is not to blame who did the hiring?

Not as busy as it looked. High prices made it hard to compete against Barbuzzo, Zavino, etc for regular dining. Hence the new focus on small plates and drinks. So many new restaurants have opened in the past year, competition is really stiff. Nothing major has closed, except for Le Bec Fin, which is reopening.

Yar. If you want cheap fish, go and get some frozen stuff from red lobster. High quality fresh fish ain’t free buddy.
