Three Bells for Alla Spina

Posted by Foobooz on June 4th, 2012

Craig LaBan reviews Marc Vetri’s Alla Spina, the kind-of Italian gastropub just off Broad Street.

Perhaps the best reason to visit Alla Spina, though, may be the bar itself, a testament to Steve Wildy’s ascent into elite company among Philly’s best beverage directors, from the inventive beer cocktails, Negronis, and soon-to-come local wines on draft, to the buzzing bar itself. The lively horseshoe counter rings a shining copper tube sprouting 20 taps that flow with one of the city’s most uniquely focused and best-curated beer collections, highlighted by some of the rare Italian brews that have found one of their premier American showcases at Alla Spina. There are Danish, German, Belgian ,and American craft gems, too, but it is the Italian roster, even deeper in the bottle list (with lots of cellared reserve selections) that should thrill any beer nerd with a serious budget.

Three Bells – Excellent

Just got back from “Industry night” at Alla Spina; the only word I can use to describe it is GHETTO. The space is ghetto, the staff was horrific and the food served was worse than carnival midway fare.

This and three other posts were links to reviews. Two others focused on special deals offered by the restaurant to the benefit of our readers and the others were mentions in Beer Week posts and a blurb on their doughnut bread pudding as part of a six pack we created.

      It isn’t advertising.

Alla Spina gets Foobooz readers very very angry which is funny. Nothing inspires rage like pricey Italian beer and pig tails I guess.

Lots of places have specials and Beer Week posts but you don’t mention any of those. It’s always the usual suspects in your posts.

Here’s some reading you need at Foobooz, the advertising and shilling is deceptive.
