Greatest Hits and What You Missed: Everything You Love, Nothing You Hate

Posted by Jason Sheehan on June 15th, 2012

As has been noted in the comments section, we here at Foobooz are just hopeless shills for the Le Bec-Fins/Hop Sings/Shake Shacks/Alla Spinas opening around town, always getting in there and providing you with news about the newest, biggest, most interesting and most disastrous openings in town. What a bunch of jerks we are! But still, in honor of those who claim we are incapable of talking about anything else, here are a few other stories you might’ve missed.

Pizza Brain! Because what the world needs now is a pizza museum, don’t you think?
Quest Loves Food at the Night Market Best fried chicken you ever ate on the street
Artisinal Ham Plate at Percy Street BBQ Take our word for it and order them three at a time
Barra Opens in Old City Lose two restaurants, gain one giant bar
Opening Date for Circles in NoLibs More Thai food is never a bad thing
Foobooz Six Pack: Lobster Rolls
Hot Dog Happy Hour at Supper One more reason to get out there and put a wiener in your mouth
Summer Menu at Meritage Korean fried pig tails? Yes, please
Blue Belly BBQ Preview at Southwark Come for the pig, stay for the cocktails
Blockhead Barbecue at the Trestle Inn That’s three pieces of barbecue news in as many days. That’s why I love summer

Happy weekend, everyone!

It sounds like the comments on here really get to you. Maybe you should stop reading them. Or disable them entirely. In any case, I recommend against further emotional engagement.

Percy Street is out of the country ham plate today. Bummer. I’d finally decided to try it.

http://profilepr.com/clients/ 80% of posts concern this list. Nuff said…

Hmmm…. More like 20% of posts and considering that this firm represents chefs like Garces and Solomonov and restaurants like A Kitchen and Le Virtu, the proportion of posts for those restaurants actually seems a bit lower than what’s appropriate.

Here’s why your post response is retarded: Yes, PR firms (and the restaurants themselves) will send stuff out to Foobooz and other food blogs. It’s Foobooz’s job – among other things – to decide whether what’s released to them is going to be interesting to the average Foobooz reader and post it if it is.

For example, I happen to love Southwark, and I love the pork from Cochon. If they’re having a joint pop-up dinner, and a Foobooz post on it happens to be a form of free advertising for the restaurant, all the better.

You don’t think Federal Donuts, Garces restaurants, Zahav, the Farm and Fisherman, Russet, Blackfish, and Ela deserve coverage the amount of coverage they receive?

National magazines and newspapers like the NYT have covered some of these places, but maybe you know better.

Here’s an idea: If you don’t want to hear about beer events, restaurant pop-ups, cocktail menus, and seasonal menu changes at the better restaurants in the city DON’T READ A FOOD BLOG.

If Foobooz is slapping up posts promoting crappy restaurants because it’s cozy with them (and I don’t think that’s the case), readers will vote with their feet.

All this said, I do have to admit that part of what I enjoy about reading this food blog are the inane responses by the 6-8 really miserable people who manage to get really upset about nice new places to eat and drinking opening up in this city.
