Another Starr Project in Fishtown

Posted by Foobooz on June 26th, 2012

A liquor license application next door to Frankford Hall reveals Stephen Starr isn’t done with Philadelphia yet. His name is on the liquor license application for 1204-08 Frankford Avenue. At least part of that parcel is an empty lot while the other address is within a recently refurbished building that includes a financial company and upstairs yoga studio.

According to the Fishtown Neighbor’s Association web site the project is described as”a cafe with takeout, outdoor seating, and a liquor license.”

When Starr was reached for comment he told our Victor Fiorillo that he couldn’t tell us for five days. Until then we guess we’ll just speculate. The corporation assigned to the liquor license is BSSS Partners LP. We’re guessing the SS is Stephen Starr, anyone want to guess who the BS is?

Update: HipCityVeg owner Nicole Marquis tells us she does not have any plans to open on Frankford Avenue.

The first BS that comes to mind is Bryan Sikora. But a.kitchen seems to be doing nicely with him at the helm.

This is definitely the long-rumored Stephen Starr/Bruce Springsteen collaboration, Hungry Heart Cafe.

The zoning presentation for this property stated it was going to be a vegan cafe run by Nicole Marquis of HipCityVeg. No connection to Stephen Starr was mentioned during the meeting but I suppose anything can change?

1204 and 1208 Frankford are two seperate projects. 1204 Frankford was presented as a vegan cafe, run by the HipCityVeg owners, that may have alcohol at some point – once they can afford the license. 1208 Frankford is a seperate project.

Its a shame Starr is adding to his empire rather than improving the quality of the food at Frankford Hall.

It could just be an investor’s name.

No, it’s definitely Sikora. The project is Talula’s (Bier) Garten.

1204 and 1208 are two separate projects. 1208 will be the Starr joint, if the rumors are true. 1204 will likely still be a vegan takeout place, but the owner is currently unknown.
