Philadelphia’s Best Italian Restaurants

It was a months-long quest, and it took us through mountains of pasta, gallons of gravy, and more limoncello­ than can possibly be healthy. but here, now, are the 30 greatest spots to eat Italian food in this city.

Philadelphia practically bleeds red, white and green. Here, Italian culture and Italian food are woven inextricably into the fabric of our lives—from the little street-corner trattoria where you drank chianti with your first love, to the neighborhood market where you buy your olives and parm and sfogliatelle, to the rollicking, endless Sunday dinners full of more characters than any Martin Scorsese film.

And that’s what we’re celebrating this month: this city’s edible Italian soul. We point you to the best places to eat, where to shop for the most authentic ingredients, what to buy and what we love. We sit down for a family dinner in South Philly, honor the institutions (and the paesanos) that have kept Old Country traditions alive across a century or more, and tell you where to find the best spaghetti and meatballs in town.       Hello: every time I click on the link “Best Italian Restaurants in Philadelphia” it takes me to to Philly Mag main page. When I scroll down and click on the link for the same article I end up in a loop that never leads to the list of restaurants. I’m using an iPhone and have tried the Safari browser, the Opera browser, and even the browser within Facebook. Is it a Flash thing perhaps? In any event it would be good if you could test your posts on multiple browsers and also mobile devices or at least warn us that it won’t work with certain configurations. Cheers.

      Thank you for not telling anyone about the new restaurant, DeMeo’s in the Andorra Shopping Center (I am not kidding). It is too crowded already. ;-)

      If you’re going to include the suburbs, it’s RIDICULOUS not to include Radice in Blue Bell. However, as a former Sovalo fanatic, I’m glad to see Ulivo on the list!

      not sure you got this right. the heading should be Philadelphia’s Most Expensive Italian Restautants. although most you your list are excellent, not all them. you really missed the mark on what is considered The Best. how about a nice spot on Frankford Ave called Emma’s, how about right in old city, Spasso. i can name a dozen more. you missed the mark on this one.

      For the life of me, I don’t understand why Philly Mag consistently overlooks Cora De Roma in the 200 block of South Street.

      At the same time, I don’t want to have a problem getting a reservation there. So I’m mixed as to whether I should complain or suck it up.

      I choose door number one.

      I just went back to the list, and I’ve eaten at 15 of the 30, and Core De Roma is better than most of them. And I don’t know why you would ever ever include Victor Cafe in any discussion about food.

      Instead of calling this The Italian Job, I would cal it The Blow Job.
