Getting Crafty With Aimee Olexy

Posted by Tara Nurin on July 13th, 2012

This is not a story about yarn bombing.

We sort of wish it was because a story about a seven-year-old trend that compels artsy-crafty types to take up the ridiculous hobby of knitting sweaters for trees, signposts and sundry other inanimate outdoor objects would give us so much more to make fun of. But alas, although the curator of the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Craft Spoken Here exhibition did commission a yarn bomber to knit a colorful cozy for the front entrance of the Perelman Building, to our knowledge, Aimee Olexy took no part in that endeavor.

Olexy will, however, add her own sense of style to the exhibition tomorrow when she leads a related workshop in Perelman’s café from 3-5 pm on how to be a good hostess. Though we’re not exactly convinced this lesson lies smoothly within the realm of craftmaking, we suppose we could buy the argument that fashioning tea sandwiches, table settings and hostess gifts out of local cheeses, farm-to-gallery produce and repurposed junk requires some skill, creativity and supplies. For $40, participants can sip on lavender lemonade mixed with Prosecco and garnished with blueberries while they fawn over Olexy as she attempts to figure out how to transform the fine art of hostessing into the folk art of edu-taining.

If she falters, they can always yarn bomb her serving plates.

You neglected to mention that this presentation will be followed from 5-7 p.m. by Bryan Sikora’s presentation on how to be a good husband.

Please continue fawning over her. She’s a nice lady and seasoned professional. Well wishes on her presentation.

I hope someday I can be as two-faced as her and trick people into writing stories about me. If you have a brain you will not be able to work for her, she requires you to be stupid so she can make all the decisions for you and then bitch about it. Enough already!!

I think its great! Because now she can stop trying to pretend she’s a chef, and that she has a clue of what she’s doing in the kitchen. All she’s good as it having Murray’s on speed dial!!
