Fantastic Italian Food Should cost as much as fantastic French food if it uses the same quality of ingredients with the same level of luxury.In this case it does not.
Desserts in Italian restaurants are also a joke because they are just basic desserts with Italian names to make them sound fancy.

@Jimmy is isn't $20 a person it is $155 a person.
More money than Eleven Madison Park-Le Bernadin and Jean Georges.

Why is it that fantastic Italian food should cost less than fantastic French, or fantastic new American, or fantastic whatever food? Do chefs have to spend a certain percentage of their revenues on sous-vide depreciation?

@Drjane

Learn how to shill post like a pro.
You are most certainly affiliated with the restaurant otherwise you would not be making clueless ridiculous claims.

Saying it rates as one of your top 5 dinners is a meaningless statement without a context.
Drink all the Vetri kool aid you want but you are not ever going to convince anyone it is better than Alinea. That is just a joke.

EVEN Marc Vetri would look entirely comical to even suggest his restaurant was better than Alinea.

There is nothing special about the wine list other than it is way overpriced.

$600 for an Italian dinner that as most people agree has no luxury ingredients is simply crazy.

The most annoying thing about the price hike is not that you will be actually getting anything more for your money. It is just for bragging rights to be the most expensive tasting menu in the city. It is basically a FU Philadelphia.

We ate at Vetri in May and it certainly rates as one of my top 5 dinners--better than Alinea in my book because it was less pretentious and the service was better. The wine pairings were definitely worth getting--we sought out and bought several of the selections at a local store because the wines were just that good. Would I go back next week? Probably not. Next year? In a heartbeat.

@ Questions:

Tip is extra. The price hike hasn't taken effect yet though, so for now it's still $135 per person. I was there a couple months ago and it was about $600 all told for two people with the less-expensive wine pairing option, tax, and tip.

If I were you I'd go to Osteria instead, it's better and much, much less expensive than Vetri.

No, they don't owe it to their investors to maximize their profits. This is an absurd "market-driven" way to think about things, and a reason why wall street is as corrupt as it is.

What and who they do owe is exemplary value and service to their customers. If they don't do this, then guess what? No profits for shareholders.

Keep your half-baked idiotic economic theories to yourself hon, and just talk about the food.

The meal I had at Vetri was amazing...I also dropped $150 at at LBF v2 and they are both worthwhile if you like to spend your money on restaurant meals. Let's not forget it is a business after all. They owe it to their investors to maximize profits...if they can keep the restaurant filled after the move, it was the right thing to do.
