Fette Sau Coming to Fishtown

Last month we told you a Stephen Starr project was going into 1204-08 Frankford Avenue. And now we know that it will be Fette Sau, the highly touted barbecue joint out of Brooklyn. Though none of the principles are talking, like Michael Klein we’ve been told it will indeed be the Williamsburg barbecue restaurant taking up residence next to Frankford Hall.

The concept behind Fette Sau is as simple as it is successful. Customers walk up to a counter, order barbecued meats and sides by weight, pay for them and then sit down at picnic tables inside and out. A separate bar sells draft beer by the mug or growler.

In a change-up for Starr, he’s bringing a restaurant’s concept to Philadelphia, name and operator intact. Also interesting, the project was brought in front of the Fishtown Neighbors Asssociation as a cafe with outdoor seating, no mention of Starr or barbecue. In fact several at the meeting have commented that it was pitched as a vegan restaurant.

Our sources say the Fishtown Fette Sau, which will join fellow Brooklyn original, Barcade on Frankford Avenue is aiming to open this Fall.
