This year’s Stephen Starr-Garry Maddox BBQ Challenge returns to Citizens Bank Park on Saturday August 11^th. For the eleventh year Philly’s biggest restaurateur and Phillies legend, Garry Maddox team up for the ultimate grill-off. Restaurant teams from Starr’s line up and other local venues will compete against each other, and in the pit master division BBQ enthusiasts will face off, all for bragging rights to the best barbecue. This day of friendly competition ends in the winner-takes-all Garry’s Rib Challenge, where the prize is tickets to the 2012 World Series.

This event is open to the public and full of food sampling, with all proceeds going toward the Youth Golf and Academics Program. Starr restaurant participants include Continental Midtown, El Rey, Butcher & Singer, Jones, and Pod. Attractions for the day (in addition to the awesome competition) include a pitching game, a mechanical bull, the Turkey Hill ice cream truck, and raffle prizes.

As if that weren’t enough, now until August 7^th you can enter to win every baseball fan’s dream: brunch with Garry Maddox and Hall of Famer Michael Jack Schmidt. The brunch will take place at 10:30am on August 11^th, the day of the BBQ Challenge, and is hosted at one of Starr’s restaurants. Tickets are $10 and can be bought online. All proceeds benefit the Youth Golf and Academics Program.
