6 Things You Can Only Get in Philly

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on August 7th, 2012

Saveur recently made a list of the 6 Things You Can Only Get in Philadelphia. The editors thankfully didn’t pick up any cheesesteaks on their journey but they did make some interesting choices:

  • The Paesano Sandwich – Paesano’s
  • Appollonia Doughnut – Federal Donuts
  • Housemade Burrata – Rittenhouse Tavern
  • Root Beer – J&E Homemade Drinks
  • Thai Coconut Gelato – Capogiro
  • Tilapia Burrito – Cucina Zapata

Do you think this is a good representation of foods you can only find in the City of Brotherly Love? What would you, the voracious commenters of Foobooz, include on this list? Let the comments begin!

Paesano’s buys their meat from Jetro. Jetro sells the stuff that Sysco throws away. It’s garbage food people.

Would it kill food writers to use proper grammar? “Only get in Philly” suggests the only thing you can do with it in Philly is get it there. It should be “get only in Philly.”

Burrata is DEFINITELY not only found in Philly, and was not invented by Rittenhouse Tavern. It’s an Italian classic.

Crabs at K&A are unique but seriously some of the “Only in Philadelphia” things to me are fried oysters with chicken salad, scrapple, pepper pot soup and snapper soup with sherry. But look at the source of the list.

Michael G: Yeah, but these days those aren’t exactly “hip” dishes to feature in a magazine article.

bobnewhart1, easy to guess you’re the dope buying the most expensive wines thinking that makes them best.

It all comes from the same places and is graded and marked you dope

@bobnewhart1, it’s well-known that the meat Paesano’s uses is made out of people.

    • bobnewhart1

@newhartdope agreed. i drink wine you couldn’t afford, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t make their sandwiches with the worst meat in town.

if you knew anything, you would know what i’m talking about in regards to Jetro. Ask anyone who knows anything about anything.
