Zen Nor Closed and Its Employees are not Happy

Posted by Foobooz on August 13th, 2012

Late last week FOX 29 reported from in front of Zen Nor, the 3rd Street restaurant that opened in mid-May and closed its doors in early August. Employees say owner Eleanor Aukett owes them wages. Zen Nor’s closure is the latest restaurant to go under at what seems like a good enough restaurant location (especially the back patio). Hoof + Fin, Gayle and Azafran have all occupied the space, closing for a variety of reasons.

Click through for the FOX video, it’s the local news in all its glory.

Unfortunately this happens all the time in the industry

This place is really interesting. It opened up across the street from me. When they closed down the owner was selling items inside the store. I walked in one day to ask what had happened and she told me that the reason the place shut down was because her chef was an alcoholic that never showed up for work. She seemed pretty angry.

She was selling items off in the store and she told me that they would re-open next month as a consignment shop. Well, obviously, that turned out to be a lie.

It’s unfortunate that she couldn’t deal with her business failing. I feel like it’s partly because they opened up this coffee type shop right next to South St Philly Bagels. And come on! We ALL KNOW how bad of an idea that is.

It seems like that spot (Zen Nor) is also cursed. I have lived here a year and have seen two businesses open and three close in this short amount of time.

It’ll be interesting to see who takes it place. I hope it’s a bakery that STAYS in business. Or a cupcakery. Orrrr an art gallery. Okay, I could think of a whole bunch of shops that I wouldn’t mind having across the street from me. haha So long as it isn’t Tapestry.
