Diner en Blanc is Set for Tonight

Posted by Foobooz on August 23rd, 2012

Diner en Blanc, the pop-up picnic at a still to be revealed outdoor spot is set to happen this evening. 1,300 guests attired entirely in white will descend bringing their own tables, chairs, food and wine.

The event kicks off at 6:30 with participants gathering at their meeting spots and then walking to the final destination. After white napkins are waived to signify the start of the picnic, live music will play, food and drink will be consumed and dancing and sparklers will follow.

At the end, the revelers will clean up after themselves and vanish into the night.

The event is sold out but sure to be a spectacle for all.

Just to confirm; people are paying good money to sit outside, set up and clean up yourself, dress formally in the same color, provide their own food, drink, utensils, table cloth, chairs and even tables?

And they bill it as a “secret” event yet everyone knows about it?

      Where is the location?

The money also helps make sure that people actually show up. The event has a capacity and demand exceeded that capacity. I’m sure a significant portion of people would sign up to go and then flake leaving out those who really would go.

Dinner for white folks. Got my painter’s pants from MAB and a Hanes beefy T all set. Put my Keds on and I’m golden. Fifty bucks, I make my own chow, bus my own table, and can’t drink beer. Best. Party. Ever.

Speaking as a typical Philadelphian, if it’s something that people from NY do, I am very interested.

I haven’t spotted any mobs of all white yet… I’m looking in all the wrong spots?

Saw some snooty trophy wife make a mess of her white digs stepping in a puddle on Samsom around 5pm. Laughed as I headed for a nice dinner on 13th where a young man took my order, brought me my food and everything. Didn’t even have to BYOT.

Back to back to back DEB international champs.

Such a fun night! Yes, you had to bring everything, but that was the fun of it. Anticipation is what some people like. Everyone talked to everyone else. Not one bad thing happened except some rude people left their trash bags behind. Positive event for positive people. Can’t wait until next year!

I just read on Philly.com that it cost $60/couple to attend and the money went to the permit and “entertainment”. 650 couples (1300 people attended) X $60 = $39,000. I’m sorry, I find it hard to believe that was how much the event cost from a permit/entertainment perspective. Someone scammed these people out of a lot of money for the privilege of them having a picnic. Sorry, you could have a picnic for free at any one of the public spaces in the city. morons.

Why do so many people care how others spend their money? I guarantee we have all wasted $59 on dumber shit than this…
